Mobile, AL : One person dead, and five injured after car overturns crash August 6th 2014.
A single-vehicle crash on the General W.K.Wilson Jr. Bridge 7 p.m. Tuesday claimed the life of a Mobile woman and injured five others, Alabama State Trooper Public Information Officer Kevin Cook said in a news release.
The accident happened at the 26 mile marker of Interstate 65 southbound on the "Dolly Parton Bridge." The 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by 40-year-old Arthur E. Lewis of Mobile overturned and 42-year-old Debra Diane Hartley and a 3-year-old passenger were ejected before the vehicle landed in the water, Cook said.
Lewis and three other passengers were rescued from the water. They and the 3-year-old were transported to a local hospital. Hartley was killed, and Cook said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alabama Marine Police, along with officers from Satsuma Police Department and Creola Police Department, worked with Troopers on the incident.
Cook said while Troopers investigated, traffic was detoured at Exit 31 and a second crash involving a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle occurred near the 27 mile marker.
No injuries were reported, but Cook said an Alabama Department of Transportation crew was called to assist with the diesel-fuel spill on the highway. Cook said by 1 a.m. Wednesday, the interstate was cleared.Source :
