Carlisle, PA : Car crashes into home in South Middleton Township on Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2016

Emergency crews were called to the 900 block of Petersburg Road in South Middleton Township at 2 p.m. for a report of a vehicle into a building Thursday afternoon.

The crash caused a chimney to collapse onto the windshield of the vehicle, smashing it and trapping the driver inside. Tim Yingst, fire chief for Citizen’s Fire Co. No. 1 of Mount Holly Springs, said firefighters had to “cut the door off to get him out.”

State Police at the scene declined to comment on the condition of the driver, who, according to firefighters at the scene, was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A neighbor who lives across the street from the residence said he was outside gardening when he heard the loud crash. However, the only person in the residence at the time of the crash said by the time he realized what had happened and rushed outside, emergency crews were already working to free the driver.

The homeowner, Kelly Hart, told abc27 News her son was sleeping in the house but wasn’t harmed. She said her son has been cancer free for three years but has some hearing difficulties. She said he slept through the crash and was awakened when someone banged on the door.

Hart said her family will be out of the home for at least three days. Once the house is secured, they will be allowed to go inside to get some belongings.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
