HAZLETON, PA : 3 injured in city crash on April, Tuesday 4th 2017
Three people were taken to hospitals Tuesday after two vehicles crashed, one of them rolling over, downtown in the early afternoon Tuesday.
There were no serious injuries, city police said.
The crash involved a dark Nissan Maxima sedan operated by an 84-year-old man from Hazleton and a red Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle operated by a 60-year-old Hazleton woman that collided at West Broad and Church streets at 12:10 p.m.
Police said they determined the sedan ran a red light while traveling north on Church Street and hit the SUV, which was westbound on West Broad Street.
After impact, the SUV rolled onto the northwest sidewalk at the intersection.
Hazleton firefighters had to assist that driver out of the vehicle, according to Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Jones, by removing the windshield after other means of extrication didn’t work.
The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in one of them were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.
West Hazleton police and American Patient Transport Systems Inc. also responded.
Portions of Broad and Church streets were blocked until the vehicles were towed around 12:40 p.m.
