June 8, A 70-year-old Thomaston woman who was injured when a car struck the motorcycle she was riding on has died.
Edith Joanne Davis died at Maine Medical Center in Portland over the weekend.
Rockland Deputy Police Chief Chris Young said he received confirmation of the death from the Maine Medical Examiner's Office. The death was the result of injuries Davis received in the crash, he said.
Davis was a passenger on a 1989 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Walter Davis, 72, of Thomaston. The motorcycle was driving north on Broadway at 12:20 p.m. and was passing through the intersection of Park Street when a 2006 Hyundai Elantra driven by Leda B. Fox, 52, of Brooks, tried to make a right turn from Park Street onto Broadway.
Fox told police she did not see the motorcycle. Her car struck the motorcycle's rear tire, causing it to fall over at the intersection.
Edith Davis was wearing a helmet.
Police initially considered the injuries to both Edith and Walter Davis as minor.
Fox has not been charged with any offense.
Young said the department will conduct follow-up interviews. He said there was absolutely no indication that Fox was impaired.
He said once all the reports are completed, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office.
