Middletown, VA : 28-year-old North Carolina man injured after a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 Monday night, November 7, 2016
A 28-year-old North Carolina man was sent to the hospital Monday night when the tractor-trailer he was driving overturned on Interstate 81, authorities said.
According to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, Nioslandy S. Villalon, of High Point, N.C., was driving a 1998 International truck southbound about 9:30 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the roadway about one-half mile south of Reliance Road (Va. 627) and hit a guardrail.
Villalon cut back across the southbound lanes into the median, causing the truck and its load of cardboard to overturn, Tyler said.
Villalon was taken to Winchester Medical Center, Tyler said, and was charged with reckless driving.
Southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for more than one hour, according to online traffic reports.
The crash is being investigated by Trooper S.R. Marks.
