Shumate, who was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger, was headed north on Peters Creek Parkway around 1:30 p.m. when he attempted to turn left toward a Bojangles’ parking lot, police said

East was driving south on Peters Creek Parkway and crashed his 2017 Ford Fusion into Shumate’s pickup, according to a release from police.

Police have not said how fast they estimate East was driving.

Shumate's pickup ended up in the parking lot of Drive Time, where it collided with a parked, unoccupied vehicle in the lot. East’s car wound up in a nearby Enterprise Rent-A-Car lot.
