NASHVILLE, TN : Driver arrested during traffic stop after officers discover drugs unrestrained child in vehicle on Friday, 21st June 2024

A man was taken into custody after officers discovered him driving through the Gulch area with a car full of people, drugs, and a child on the floor of the backseat early Friday morning.

According to an arrest affidavit, 29-year-old Bartola Gomez-Perez was pulled over on 8th Avenue South and Division Street after officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department noticed the vehicle was displaying expired temporary tags. Gomez-Perez then was unable to produce any identifying documents to the officers, including a driver’s license, the affidavit states.

The officers reported five people in the backseat of the vehicle, including a child sitting on the floor. The child was between the age of 2-3 years old, the report said. A more detailed search of the vehicle produced 8.6 grams of marijuana, and upon questioning, Gomez-Perez said the drugs were not his.

Gomez-Perez was arrested and charged with child endangerment, driving without a license, and drug possession. He also has nearly a dozen other domestic-related charges dating back to 2021.
