A New York man was killed and several juvenile passengers in his car were injured in a crash early Monday on southbound Interstate 71 in Pickaway County.
Jermaine Colon, 43, of Rochester, New York, was driving northbound in a Chrysler 200 just after 5 a.m. when the car went off the left side of the road, hit a sign, continued through the median and hit an oncoming semi, according to the Circleville post of the State Highway Patrol. The crash happened between Harrisburg and Mount Sterling, not far from the Pickaway County line.
Colon was flown from the scene to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he died. His three passengers were all taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with what the patrol described as non-life threatening injuries. A patrol sergeant said he did not know the relationship between Colon and the injured children, whom the patrol did not identify.
