Winchendon, MA : Four people injured in a head-on crash on Route 101 on Friday, April 10, 2015

A head-on crash Friday sent four people to the hospital and closed Route 101 for more than an hour.

At about 12:24 p.m., Denise Duclos of Gonic was traveling west on Route 101 when she crossed into the eastbound lane while attempting to turn into the House by the Side of the Road florist.

At the same time, Codi Westra of Winchendon, Massachusetts was traveling east on Route 101 in a Ford Explorer. When Duclos’ PT Cruiser crossed into her lane, Westra was unable to avoid her and the two cars collided head-on, resulting in serious but non life-threatening injuries both drivers and two passengers.

The passenger from Duclos’ PT Cruiser had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Wilton and Milford Fire Departments.

“It was a lengthy extraction process,” said Brent Hautanen, chief of police.

All four occupants of the vehicles were transported via ambulance for treatment, two to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua and two to Ellison Hospital in Manchester.

Route 101 was shut down and traffic detoured through Intervale Road for approximately 90 minutes while the scene was cleared and vehicles were towed from the scene. Police were assisted by Milford police, Temple-Greenville police, Wilton Ambulance, Amherst EMS and Peterborough Ambulance.
