Columbus, IN : A two-vehicle head-on crash in Jefferson County on Wednesday, December, 13th 2017
A two-vehicle, head-on crash in Jefferson County has claimed the lives of a North Vernon couple.
A black 1997 Ford Mustang driven by Joshua C. Hendrix, 34, of North Vernon, was traveling eastbound on State Road 256 near County Road 1000W in Jefferson County, Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said after receiving information from a crash-reconstruction team.
The Hendrix vehicle crossed the center double yellow line while attempting to pass another vehicle, entering into the path of a westbound black 2010 Chevrolet Impala driven by Trisha M. Ebertshauser, 28, of Scottsburg, Wheeles said. The vehicles collided head-on at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of State Road 256, he said.
Hendrix’ vehicle traveled off the south side of the roadway and came to rest before catching fire, Wheeles said. Joshua Hendrix and his wife, Amanda J. Hendrix, 27, a front-seat passenger, sustained fatal injuries in the collision, he said.
They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Ebertshauser’s vehicle traveled off the north side of the roadway and came to rest, Wheeles said. She sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision, he said.
Ebertshauser and a backseat passenger, Michael A. Riggs, 19, of Bedford, Kentucky, were flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Wheeles said.
The front-seat passenger, Rebecca S. Roberts, 23, of Scottsburg, was transported to King’s Daughter Hospital in Madison for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, as the investigation is ongoing, Wheeles said.
