Chester County, SC : Driver charged with DUI in crash on U.S. 21 near Catawba River Road on Sunday, August 21, 2016

A driver is charged with DUI in Chester County crash that killed one person Sunday.

The crash happened around 7:10 p.m. on U.S. 21 near Catawba River Road.

Highway Patrol says 30-year-old Alicia Hughes was driving a 1998 Honda when she went over the line and struck a 2003 Mercury head-on.

A passenger in the Mercury, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to the hospital where they died, Highway Patrol says.

The driver of the Mercury was injured and went to Carolinas Medical Center. EMS took Hughes to Piedmont Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.

Hughes was arrested Thursday and charged with felony DUI death by vehicle.
