Ventress, LA : One driver died and another injured in a head-on collision on LA 415 in Pointe Coupee Parish on Sunday evening, July 31, 2016

One driver died and another was injured in a head-on collision Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police reported Joshua Mougeot, 29, of New Roads, was killed in the crash and Gregory Martin, 56, of Port Allen, suffered moderate injuries.

Investigators said the wreck happened on LA 415 north of LA 414 near Ventress in Pointe Coupee Parish around 6 p.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the investigation by troopers so far showed Mougeot was driving north on LA 415 in a 2000 Toyota Echo at the same time that Martin was headed south on LA 415 in a 1996 Lexus LS400.

He added Mougeot’s car crossed the center line in a curve and collided head-on with Martin’s car. Lee noted investigators have not yet determine what caused Mougeot’s car to veer into the opposite lane.

Officials said Mougeot was pronounced dead by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. They added both men were properly buckled up. Martin’s current condition was not released.

According to Lee, impairment is not suspected but per procedure for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken from both drivers for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
