Florence, AL : 20-year-old dies after a one-car wreck early Sunday morning, August 7, 2016
One person is dead and another in critical condition after a one-car wreck early this morning in Florence, police said.
Florence police Sgt. Chris Ticer said Jayte Monroe Hairrell, 20, of Florence, was killed in the wreck that occurred around 2:30.
A passenger in the car, 20-year-old William Tyler Evans, of Sheffield, was taken to Huntsville Hospital and is in critical condition.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Cox Creek Parkway and Cloverdale Road.
Reports indicate Hairrell apparently lost control of the 2007 Toyota Corolla as he was trying to turn from Cox Creek Parkway onto Cloverdale Road.
Police at the scene said speed was a contributing factor.
Hairrell was pronounced dead at the scene by Lauderdale County Coroner Andy High.
The accident is under investigation by the Florence Police Department's traffic division.
