Erie, PA : A man struck by a vehicle on Friday, July 21, 2017

A man struck by a vehicle in the 2900 block of State Street on Friday morning later died of his injuries, according to Erie police.

Police on Sunday identified the victim as George Wiser, 66, of Girard. Wiser died at UPMC Hamot on Friday, according to information in his obituary.

Wiser was injured when he was struck by a vehicle in the area of 29th and State streets. City police, firefighters and EmergyCare were called to the area at 10:19 a.m. Friday on a report of a pedestrian and found Wiser, who had suffered head injuries, police reported.

Investigators said Friday that the vehicle that struck Wiser was reportedly backing up when he was struck.
