Gardena, CA : Four people killed in fiery crash off the 110 Freeway in Gardena early Sunday, November 27, 2016

Teenagers from Inglewood and Compton were among the four people killed early Sunday when a sedan veered off the 110 Freeway and burst into flames, authorities said.

The deadly crash at the northbound 110 offramp to the westbound 91 Freeway in Gardena came as a powerful storm system moved through Southern California, dumping up to a half-inch of rain or more in parts of the South Bay.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the blue 1991 Ford Probe was traveling at a high rate of speed about 3:30 a.m. when the driver lost control and struck a support pillar.

The car went over the embankment and caught fire, trapping the four inside, CHP Officer Tony Polizzi said.

No one inside the car survived. All four people were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the CHP said.

As of late Sunday, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office was still trying to identify the four people and notify their families, Lt. Larry Dietz said.

The CHP provided limited information and said the driver was an 18-year-old man from Inglewood. A rear-seat passenger was an 18-year-old woman from Compton, and another rear passenger was identified only as an 18-year-old man, according to the CHP.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
