Tavares, FL : Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Lake County on Thursday night, February 9, 2017
A man walking with his bicycle along a Lake County road died Thursday night in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Antwan Bailey, 31, was walking near County Road 452 and Little Horse Drive about 6:45 p.m. when he was hit by two vehicles, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said.
The driver of the first vehicle told troopers she was trying to pass a truck, when she saw Bailey in the southbound lanes. She swerved, but the front right corner of her sport utility vehicle hit Bailey, knocking him to the ground, according to FHP.
A second vehicle then ran over Bailey and the driver kept going, Montes said.
Witnesses described the second vehicle as a “small red car” with a broken headlight, Montes said. It most likely has damage to the front undercarriage, she said.
The intersection is in northern Lake County near the Ocala National Forest.
