Sacramento, CA : A head-on collision on Pacific Coast Highway on Wednesday, July 5, 2017
A head-on collision on Pacific Coast Highway claimed the lives of three people and left two juveniles injured Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rescue crews were called to the 7300 block of Pacific Coast Highway just south of Mugu Rock around 8:20 p.m. They found two vehicles with severe front-end damage. One of the vehicles had come to rest in the northbound lane, while the other had stopped in the middle of the highway.
Shortly after firefighters arrived, they pronounced three people dead and found two others injured, said Steve Swindle, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department.
The crash occurred when a Mercedes traveling south collided with a sport utility vehicle that was traveling north, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Salmeron said.
An elderly man and woman were in the sport utility vehicle, which Salmeron also described as a minivan. It was not yet known who was driving the minivan, and both of the elderly adults were killed, authorities said.
A male was the only person in the Mercedes, and he also died, Salmeron said.
