Clarksdale, MS : 2-year-old child hit and killed by a car in Clarksdale, Mississippi on Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2015

Police are investigating the scene after a 2-year-old child was killed in Clarksdale, Mississippi on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Coahoma County Coroner, the young girl was hit by a car in the 900 block of Spruce Street just after 2 p.m. She died on the scene.

However, the girl's grandmother says what hurts the most is that the 22-year-old driver did not stop and kept driving.

"We were all out here washing cars," recalled 2-year-old Jamiya's grandmother. "That's all we were doing, washing cars."

Jamiya spotted her grandmother across the street. That's when her grandmother says she ran towards her and family members began to scream.

"The big truck hit her and she fell directly into my arms," the grandmother recalled. "That's all I had. That's my only grand baby."

When the driver hit Jamiya, he kept going, taking her with him.

"He drug her," said the grandmother. "He drug her down the street and I couldn't get to her. I tried my best. I would have given my life for her."

Jamiya's grandmother says this sweet girl was loved by so many who are now suffering after watching her two year old's life taken away.

"He took everything I had, he took it from me," said the grandmother. "That girl was a part of me."

She added, "I don't know what I'm going to do without her."

Police say they are still investigating whether alcohol contributed to the incident.
