LAKE ALFRED, FL : 5-year-old boy killed in Lake Alfred crash on U.S. Highway 17/92 and Pomelo Street on Sunday, 23rd December 2018

A 5-year-old boy was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on U.S. Highway 17/92 and Pomelo Street.
Ayden Cabanas was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa after receiving head trauma but did not survive.
Austin Cabanas, 26, of Lakeland, was driving the 2006 Volvo with Ayden; Shannon Yawn, 24; and Evee Cabanas, 3, as passengers.
A Lake Alfred police officer had attempted to stop the Volvo by putting on his overhead lights right before Cabanas drove through a red light and struck a 2012 Ford Taurus driven by Cole Ethridge, 23, of Lake Alfred, according to a preliminary investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Cabanas’ Volvo hit a pole and turned over, according to the report.
