PLANT CITY,FL : Interstate 4 crash near Plant City kills 43-year-old man on July, Sunday 9th 2017

A 43-year-old Apopka man died early Sunday after he lost control of the minivan he was driving on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.


About 2:30 a.m., the man, who troopers have not identified pending notification of kin, was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey west in the outside lane of the interstate.

West of Branch Forbes Road, the driver reached for something in the car, distracting him, authorities said. He lost control of the van, which veered off the road into the median and collided with a guardrail.

The driver was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Two passengers in the car, 54-year-old Maribel Muniz and 26-year-old Cathleen Melendez, were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
