Joppa woman killed in motorcycle crash

Valerie A. Caulfield, 47, of Joppa died at 3:55 p.m. Monday in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 45 near the Johnson/Massac county line, according to Illinois State Police.The Harley-Davidson driven by Paul D. Meyers Jr., 49, of Grand Chain struck a deer, and Meyers and his passenger, Caulfield, were thrown from the motorcycle.Caulfield was wearing a helmet, Meyers was not. Meyers was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.Meyers was charged with violation of classification and operating an uninsured vehicle.
