Tallahassee, FL : Florida man sentenced for deadly DUI-road sex wreck on Wednesday, March 29th 2017
A Florida man has been sentenced to five years in prison following a booze-fuelled car wreck that killed his wife as they had road sex.
Matthew Notebaert, 33, told authorities he remembers his wife, Amanda, sitting on his lap before waking up inside their totaled vehicle beside her lifeless body.
Emergency personnel found both Notebaert and his wife in the buff below the belt, according to the Palm Beach Post.
“This isn’t your first chance. You’ve been to jail before, you’ve been on probation,” a judge told the father-of-two.
“You failed your wife, you failed your children and you failed all your family that is here today.”
Reportedly in tears as he addressed the court, Notebaert said he and his wife had attended a concert on the day of the accident and shared a flask of whisky at the show.
While returning to their West Palm Beach home, Notebaert admitted the couple at some point pulled over to have sex.
Investigators believe Notebaert continued driving along a busy Palm Beach boulevard before turning onto a dirt road and blowing through a trio of posted signs warning of a canal ahead.
According to the report, the couple’s Chevy Equinox slammed into the structure so hard it went airborne before crashing on the opposite side.
Notebaert’s blood-alcohol level was recorded at twice the legal limit hours after the incident. Amanda died at the scene.
“You had a responsibility to get your wife home safely,” Amanda’s father, Mike Stacey, told his former son-in-law before sentencing.
Notebaert pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI and second degree felony vehicular homicide.
