One person is dead and another four injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near Elk Point.
A 2015 Chevy Equinox driven by a 24-year-old woman was heading south at 1:24 p.m. Monday when she lost control. The vehicle went through the median, into the northbound lane and hit a 2006 Chevy Express van head-on.
A 32-year-old female passenger in the Equinox died from her injuries in the crash. A 45-year-old male passenger in the van received life-threatening injuries. Both were not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Equinox and the driver of the van, a 69-year-old man, suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries. A second passenger in the van, a 35-year-old man, had minor injuries. All three were wearing seatbelts.
The names have been withheld pending family notification.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
