An Everett man could face a drunken driving charge after he reportedly crashed into a Washington State Patrol cruiser that was parked while the trooper provided traffic control Tuesday evening at the scene of a cluster of arsons along I-5.
The trooper was in the patrol car with emergency lights flashing when it was struck about 8 p.m. near milepost 197. The trooper was not seriously injured but was taken to an area hospital and treated and released, according to a State Patrol accident memo. The trooper’s name was not included in the report.
The man said to be responsible for the crash, 33, is believed to have been driving drunk. He was not injured.
He was driving southbound on I-5 in the right lane when his vehicle struck the patrol car, which was in the roadway.
The State Patrol is investigating a string of fires that appear to have been deliberately set Tuesday along I-5 from Everett to Skagit County.
