Victoria,TX : Official identifies men killed in separate wrecks on January, Friday 26th 2018
Investigators are working to determine how a 27-year-old San Antonio man died Friday night in a three-vehicle wreck.
Cesar Ramos was one of three men who died in two separate vehicle wrecks in Jackson County.
David Dee Whittley, 55, of Yoakum, and Aaron Robert Ivory, 44, of Inez, were the two men who died in the first crash in a head-on collision.
"Having three fatalities about 18 minutes apart from each other, it was a difficult night," said Sgt. Ruben San Miguel of the Department of Public Safety.
Troopers responded about 6:10 p.m. Friday to Farm- to-Market Road 822 west of Edna, where a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Whittley, and a 2011 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Ivory, were involved in a head-on collision.
San Miguel said Whittley and Ivory were declared dead at the scene.
The 2006 pickup was northbound on Farm-to-Market Road 822 when it failed to drive on a single lane and crossed paths with the 2011 pickup. Ivory, who was driving south, tried to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful, San Miguel said.
The road was shut down for about three hours but was opened about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
The second crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. at SH 111 North, about 9 miles northwest of Edna. It was a three-vehicle wreck between a 2010 Honda motorcycle, a 1993 Chevrolet 2500 pickup and a 2005 Mazda pickup, San Miguel said.
He said David Tate, 60, of Edna, who driving the 1993 Chevrolet, was northbound on SH 111 when he signaled to turn left on County Road 126.
Cesar Ramos, who was driving a Honda motorcycle behind a 1993 Chevrolet, failed to control speed and struck the pickup, San Miguel said.
He said Ramos was ejected from the motorcycle and fell onto the southbound lane. Ramos, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, San Miguel said.
San Miguel said Heriberto Jimenez Vargas, 23, of Bay City, who was driving the 2005 Mazda, was heading south on SH 111 North.
San Miguel said investigators were unsure whether Ramos died from the impact of being ejected or whether he was run over by the Mazda.
Investigators are working to determine how Ramos died.
Vargas was treated at the scene and released, and Tate was not injured, San Miguel said.
"There were a bunch of factors," San Miguel said. "The weather conditions were poor. It was raining, and there was limited visibility. It's a tough mixture."
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
