A Winter Springs man died early Sunday after his car ran off the road and smashed into a building in Deltona, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigators said.

Michele Bertuzzi was traveling along Deltona Boulevard shortly before 12:30 a.m. when his vehicle veered off the roadway and smashed into a building. Bertuzzi was the only occupant of the vehicle, spokesman Gary Davidson said.

A deputy driving past the scene noticed the car up against an exterior wall of a doctor’s office at 770 Deltona Blvd. The impact caused minimal damage to the building, but crushed the front end of the car, Davidson said.

When rescue workers arrived at the scene Bertuzzi was unresponsive. He was taken out of the car and transported to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, where he died at 1:13 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation, Davidson said.
