A 48-year-old Nashua, N.H., man was transported by ambulance from the scene of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at an intersection on Middlesex Street at about 5:40 p.m. Monday.

A 31-year-old Lowell man was turning left from Moulton Avenue onto Middlesex Street when his SUV collided with a motorcycle traveling on Middlesex Street, Lowell Police Capt. James Hodgdon said. The driver told police that he could hear a motorcycle, but did not see it, according to Hodgdon.

Upon seeing the motorcycle, the driver of the SUV stopped, Hodgdon said. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid the SUV, but collided with the front end of the vehicle, he added.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Hodgdon. The driver of the SUV and a passenger, a 25-year-old Lowell woman, were not injured.

A witness to the accident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was inside a nearby building when he saw the motorcycle drive by followed by “a loud bang.”

“Then I saw a woman run up the street as if something had happened,” the witness said. “I looked out the door and saw that there had been an accident.”
