Azusa, CA : One dead by wrong-way driver on Southern California freeway on Saturday August 9th 2014
Authorities say a drunk, wrong-way driver struck another car on a Southern California freeway, killing a man and fleeing the scene.
California Highway Patrol officer Monica Posada said the collision occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday, minutes after authorities received a call about a wrong-way driver in the westbound lanes of Interstate 210 in Azusa.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports 19-year-old Justin Romo of El Monte was killed when his Nissan sedan was struck head-on by a Honda Accord. Romo's 16-year-old girlfriend was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Tyler White Thompson, ran from the wreck but was later arrested at his home in Duarte. Posada said he was treated for minor injuries and booked for investigation of DUI and hit-and-run.
