Morristown , TN : One Teen student injured after steuck and hit by van along Lincoln Avenue on Friday , March 6th 2015
A Morristown East student was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Friday afternoon after being struck by a van shortly after 3 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue in Morristown.
According to reports, a group of teenagers were on the north sidewalk heading west on the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue in front of Lincoln Manor at about 3:15 p.m.
According to Morristown Police Department Major Michelle Jones, the teens were apparently “horseplaying” when a car drove by and an occupant shouted at a 17-year-old who was in the group of teens.
With traffic slowed to school zone speeds, the teen apparently stepped into the roadway and into the path of a Maroon Kia Sedona van driven westbound by 22-year-old Jeremy Widner of Morristown.
The van struck the teen, who went up and into the windshield. The teen’s condition is unknown. He was flown via LifeStar to UT with reported head injuries.
Widner and the van’s two occupants, including a 13-year-old girl Widner had just picked up from the middle school, were uninjured in the incident. However, the 13-year-old suffered an episode from a pre-existing medical condition that caused her to be taken to Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.
Jones said there were no indications that Widner was under the influence at the time of the wreck, according to Jones. However, as standard procedure, Widner submitted to a blood test.
At this time, Jones said, it does not appear likely that Widner will face charges in the accident. The investigation is ongoing
