Lubbock,TX : 1 arrested, 3 injured after vehicle crashes into South Lubbock apartment on May, Wednesday 2nd 2018

A driver fled on foot but was quickly arrested after crashing an SUV into an apartment building, injuring three people Wednesday afternoon in South Lubbock.

The crash was reported about 2:44 p.m. at the Falcon Cove apartments near 66th Street and Temple Avenue, according to Lubbock police spokeswoman Kasie Whitley.

Jerry Traylor, 22, was arrested in the 1600 block of 69th Street after police say a witness followed him after the crash, communicating his location to dispatchers. Police initially arrested Traylor in connection to an unrelated, outstanding warrant, according to Whitley. Further charges in connection with the crash are pending.

Although it was not immediately clear what contributed to the crash, it resulted in a white Chevrolet Tahoe striking utility lines, meters, a fence, and two other cars before crashing into the apartment building. One of the cars that was hit, a white Pontiac Grand Am, was also pushed into the apartment along with the Chevrolet Tahoe. Police confirmed three people from an apartment suffered moderate injuries.

Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud screech right before the crash occurred. Lubbock resident David Davis said the Tahoe belonged to his daughter, though she wasn’t in the car at the time, and she had just gotten the vehicle.

“When I looked at the truck, when I saw that tire laying down, I knew it was my daughter’s truck,” Davis said as first respodners worked the scene to remove the vehicles from the building. “I’m just glad my daughter isn’t hurt. That’s as good as it gets.”
