LUZERNE, PA : Bike donated to Luzerne police after crash on Back Mountain Trail on Wednesday, 19th June 2019
A crash on the Back Mountain Trail led to a donation that will give Luzerne police officers a new way to patrol.
Forty Fort resident David Bass was riding south on the trail when he collided with a rope strung across it. It knocked him to the ground, and he went to the hospital for treatment.
After learning about the crash, officials at Trans-Med Ambulance looked into donating a bike to the borough. They planned to donate a regular bicycle powered by pedalling, but learned that Vector Security and Joseph Aiello were also interested in contributing, said Trans-Med spokesman David Prohaska.
With their combined contributions, they were able to gather about $3,000 to purchase a “Recon Power Bikes Commando,” a bicycle that can move via pedal power or an electric motor. They also bought accessories for the bike. The bike can travel at 30 mph and has an electric range of 50 miles on a full charge, Prohaska said.
