Bowling Green, KY : Tennessee trucker dead in Interstate 65 crash on Thursday, January, 25th 2018
Police were called to a traffic fatality involving three tractor-trailers Thursday morning in Simpson County.
A White House, Tenn., man was confirmed dead in the wreck on southbound Interstate 65 near mile marker 2, Kentucky State Police Post 3 spokesman Trooper Jeremy Hodges said.
Traffic in that area had been slowed because of a prior wreck, Hodges said.
There was also road construction just across the state line in Tennessee.
Before the fatal collision, two tractor-trailers were stationary in the right lane of travel because of congestion, according to a KSP news release.
The preliminary investigation shows Jeremy D. Wells, 39, of White House, was operating a 2015 tractor-trailer and failed to yield to the stationary traffic ahead, KSP said. Well’s vehicle struck the rearmost tractor-trailer, a 2014 Freightliner driven by Eric T. Chapman, 50, of Bethpage, Tenn.
As a result of the impact, Chapman’s vehicle made contact with the rear of another tractor-trailer, a 2016 Freightliner that was being operated by William R. Allen, 62, of Brownsville. Chapman and Allen did not report any injuries.
Wells was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
I-65 was shut down in the southbound direction while police investigated the wreck. A detour was set up at Exit 6.
The southbound lanes between exits 6 and 2 were closed until about 6 p.m.
