Salem, OR : Newberg man dies after crash on Oregon 99W on Wednesday, 28th September 2016

A man died Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash north of Newberg.

Gary Routon, 63, of Newberg was riding his 2002 Harley Davidson north on Oregon 99W when the car in front of him rapidly stopped in the early morning, the Oregon State Police said in a news release. He hit the car near milepost 20, police said.

An earlier unrelated crash had stopped traffic, including a 2012 Acura MDX driven by Shanna Peralta, 40, of Newberg. She wasn't injured after the Harley collided into the back of the Acura, police said.

The crash reduced traffic in both directions for several hours while state troopers and emergency crews worked. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
