Columbus,OH : WB Ronald Reagan Hwy reopens after fatal crash on August, Tuesday 15th 2017

Westbound Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway is open again but eastbound lanes remain closed between Interstate 275 and Blue Rock Road due to a fatal crash early Tuesday, fire officials said.

Township police have been out all morning investigating and reconstructing a single-vehicle crash and fire on the highway just after 2 a.m., said Colerain Township Battalion Chief Steve Conn.

It's not clear when the eastbound lanes will reopen.

Earlier story:

"They hope to get it back open by 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. They are taking measurements on any of the tire patterns as far as skid marks and things of that nature so they can estimate speed," Conn said at 3:45 a.m.

"They are going to be walking in the road, so we just can't have vehicles going past us. They have to get good, accurate measurements."

First responders were called to the highway earlier this morning when a westbound pickup truck crossed into the eastbound lanes and then ran about 100 feet off the highway and crashed, bursting into flames, Conn said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Authorities are not sure yet of the driver's sex or identity.
