Providence , RI : Three people dead following car crash on 195 on Wednesday, 28th September 2016
The three people dead following a crash on route 195 Wednesday morning have been identified. Police say a livery vehicle, driven by 68-year-old John Oliveria, was driving the Dodge caravan livery van, when he crossed the westbound side of route 195, drove through the grass median and entered the eastbound side where he struck a BMW traveling eastbound head on.
Oliveria, as well as his passenger, 55-year-old Josephine Mazzocca, of New Bedford were killed.
The young woman in the BMW, identified as 23-year old Karonlyne Camile Lima, also died.
Police say the livery vehicle rolled over after the initial impact with the BMW. A Subaru then struck the BMW causing the Subraru to catch on fire. Two people in the livery vehicle have died, a third survived and was transported to Rhode Island hospital. Three people were in the car that was hit head on a 23 year old woman from New Bedford was killed, a 25 year old man from fall river as well as a toddler were taken to the hospital.
"I was inside the house, and we heard a big crash," says Alex Perreira.
Perreira lives a few houses down from this over-pass overlooking the place where the accident happened. He says people told him when the cars crashed; it looked like a bomb went off.
"We started seeing ambulances coming, fire trucks coming. I saw a fire; they were putting out a fire," he says.
The cause of the crash, including why the livery crossed the median strip, remains under investigation.
