Evansville, IN : Drunk driver crashed into parked vehicles on Wednesday, December 3, 2014
Evansville police arrested a man they say was drunk when he crashed his car into several parked vehicles.
According to an Evansville Police Department affidavit, officers arrived at 1201 N. Garvin St., and found Joseph A. Melton highly intoxicated with an empty pint bottle of vodka on the front seat of his vehicle.
Melton smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet, according to the affidavit. An officer gave Melton several field sobriety tests — which Melton failed — and stopped further testing for Melton’s safety, according to the affidavit.
A chemical test showed Melton had a blood alcohol level of 0.22 percent, well above Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08. Melton was also driving on a suspended license.
Melton is currently booked in Vanderburgh County jail with no bond on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.15 percent or more, a Class A misdemeanor, and driving on a suspended license, a Class misdemeanor.
