Alexandria, LA : Jonesville man killed in collision with 18-wheeler on U.S. Highway 84 in LaSalle Parish on Wednesday, September 28, 2016

A Jonesville man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 84 in LaSalle Parish and collided with an 18-wheeler, according to State Police Troop E.

The victim was identified as Joseph M. Lee, 30, of Jonesville.

Troopers were called to the accident scene about 8 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 84 east of Whitehall.

Lee was driving a 1991 Ford pickup truck west on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2017 Freightliner driven by Ray Charles Givens, 51, of Summit, Mississippi, State Police reported.

Lee was wearing his seat belt but was pronounced dead, police said.

Givens was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers from State Police Troop E have investigated 39 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 44 fatalities.
