Woodland, CA : Yolo coroner identifies man killed in Woodland accident on Sunday, 2nd February, 2020

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has identified the passenger who was killed in a solo-vehicle accident at midnight Sunday in Woodland.

Dead is Edwin Ortiz Hernandez, 33, of Woodland. The condition of the man driving the vehicle is unknown since hospital policy is not to release condition reports of accident victims.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 12:30 a.m., Sunday and residents of the area reported the crash itself was said to be so powerful the ground trembled.

Woodland police reported the fatal accident occurred on East Gum Avenue near Bourne Drive.

A spokesman for the Police Department reported the vehicle, a GMC pickup, was traveling eastbound on East Gum when it left the road and struck the sound wall. That stretch of East Gum curves slightly to the north as it crosses Bourn.

The impact of the crash left Hernandez dead at the scene, according to the police, The driver of the vehicle was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries by ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation, so it is not yet known whether alcohol or other intoxicants were involved. The speed of the vehicle also wasn’t yet known as of Sunday morning.
