GULFPORT, MS : Medical emergency caused crash on Sunday, March 12th 2017
Gulfport police believe a crash on Pass Rd. involving three vehicles and two buildings was caused by a medical emergency and no charges are expected.
Witnesses tell us an elderly woman driving westbound on Pass Rd. hit a pickup truck and then careened into another truck parked in front of Tiger-Rock Martial Arts International. The second truck was pushed into the Tiger Rock building and caused minor damage to the store front.
Police said two men were training in the building when the crash happened, but they were not injured.
Witnesses said the woman that set off the chain reaction crash then put her car in reverse, crossed over Pass Rd., and plowed into a Tropical Cove townhome.
Sgt. Joshua Bromen, spokesman for the police department, said the elderly woman was incoherent, and she was taken to the hospital to be treated for medical issues and minor injuries.
The management of Tropical Cove is working with the Gulfport Fire Department to check the structural integrity of the townhome, Bromen said.
