New Town, N.D : Four killed in two-vehicle crash east of New Town on Monday, October 17, 2016
Four people, all from Mandaree, N.D., were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday night 6 miles east of New Town, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The patrol said the names of those who died will be released on Wednesday.
The crash occurred at 9:35 p.m. when a pickup and car collided on the highway.
A 23-year-old man from Denton, Texas, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck west on N.D. Highway 23, approaching an intersection with N.D. Highway 8.
A 23-year-old woman was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus car with four passengers south on Highway 8, approaching the same intersection.
The patrol said the car did not stop at the intersection and was struck by the pickup. The car rolled.
The driver and three men in the car, ages 27, 23 and 21, died at the scene. The patrol said the fourth passenger in the car, a 28-year-old woman, was transported by New Town Ambulance and later Northstar Services to Trinity Health in Minot for treatment of serious injuries.
No one in the pickup was injured.
The drivers of the vehicles and the pickup’s passenger wore seat belts. None of the passengers in the car wore seat belts.
The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office, Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department, Three Affiliated Tribes Highway Patrol and New Town Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
