Alachua County, FL : Two dead after head-on vehicle crash on northeast State Road 26 in Alachua County just north of the Newnans Lake Conservation Area on Monday, 12th August 2019

Two people died in a two-car crash on northeast State Road 26 in Alachua County just north of the Newnans Lake Conservation Area on Monday night.

The vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on the two-lane roadway at about 11:31 p.m., when one of the vehicles crossed the center line, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

This resulted in a head-on collision, the report said. It is not yet known which vehicle crossed the line.

One of the drivers, Frank Latorre, 61, of Fleming Island, wore a seat belt at the time of the crash but died at the scene, the report said.

The driver of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Morneca Campbell, of Starke, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital, where she died of her injuries, the report said. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the report said.
