Bailey County, TX : 10 children injured in Bailey County school bus vs. semi crash near the intersection of State Highway 214 and County Road 1028 on Tuesday, 11th June 2019

Nine children were injured Tuesday in a crash in Bailey County involving a school bus and a semitractor-trailer, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.

Troopers responded about 2:20 p.m. to the crash near the intersection of State Highway 214 and County Road 1028, according to a DPS news release.

A preliminary investigation showed a Muleshoe ISD school bus was traveling north on TX-214 and was turning west onto CR-1028 when the semitractor-trailer behind it tried to pass and collided with the bus, the release states.

Nine elementary school students were on the bus at the time of the crash, and eight of the students were taken to Muleshoe Area Medical Center to treat minor injuries. One child was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with non-incapacitating injuries. The driver of the truck was also transported to UMC with incapacitating injuries, said Lieutenant Bryan Witt with Texas DPS.

It was not immediately clear where the students were going or what facility they were attending. A-J Media left a message with the school district seeking comment from the superintendent.
