Maryville, MO : Five injured in Highway 71 collision on Saturday, February 25th 2017
Five people, including a 7-year-old boy, were injured late Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 71 four miles south of Burlington Junction.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Adam C. Emery, 36, Hopkins, and a 2007 Pontiac G6 driven by Michael P. Glaser, 21, of Spalding, Nebraska, were southbound on the two-lane highway when both drivers moved into the northbound lane to pass a slower vehicle.
The patrol report stated that the two passing cars collided in the northbound lane, causing both to overturn.
Injured in the Emery vehicle were the driver, Adam Emery, who refused treatment at the scene; Sarah A. Emery, 32, who suffered moderate injuries; and Wyatt H. Emery, 7, who also suffered moderate injuries.
Both Sarah and Wyatt were taken by ambulance to SSM Health St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.
Of the car’s three occupants, only Wyatt Emery was properly secured in the vehicle.
Injured in the Glaser vehicle were the driver, Michael Glaser, who suffered moderate injuries, and passenger Haley E. Girmus, 21, who suffered minor injuries.
Both were also taken by ambulance to St. Francis, and both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The two vehicles involved were described as totaled and had to be towed from the scene
Trooper D.E. Sigman was assisted in working the accident by personnel from the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office.
