A 19-year-old South Carolina man killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday morning in Carlsbad was a Camp Pendleton Marine, authorities said Thursday.

Ryan Wayne Martin lost control of his motorcycle around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on an Interstate 5 on-ramp and slid across the roadway before being struck and run over by a pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities said Martin was riding a BMW motorcycle on the southbound on-ramp from Vista Way when he crashed for unknown reasons. The Marine was struck by the Ford F-150 pickup near Las Flores Drive.
