Wreck in Gloucester seriously injures Newport News woman

A single-vehicle wreck along Route 17 late Sunday afternoon left a Newport News woman seriously injured.

A northbound 2003 Jeep Wrangler driven by Kimberly Evans, 29, crossed one northbound lane just south of the intersection with T.C. Walker Road at 5:24 p.m. and then crossed the center median and two southbound lanes before hitting a culvert at the entrance of the old Page Middle School, said First Sgt. Caren Sterling of the Virginia State Police. The vehicle flipped, struck a phone pedestal and rolled two more times, Sterling said.Evans was ejected from the vehicle and seriously injured. She was flown to a hospital, but Sterling said didn't have information on her condition or where Evans was taken.

Evans was not wearing a seat belt, Sterling said. There's no indication alcohol, drugs, or speed was a factor in the wreck, Sterling said. The accident remains under investigation.
