Lancaster County, SC : One person injured after crash on Highway 200 near Zion Road early Monday morning, Oct 12, 2015

A man is hospitalized after suffering serious injuries in a crash early Monday morning outside of Lancaster.

WBTV was there as first responders had to cut through the vehicle to remove the man. He was flown to an area hospital.

The large box truck crashed in a wooded area near Zion Rd and Highway 200.

Screams could be heard through the woods, but first responders said the victim was responsive.

"He did really well, the driver we talked to him, EMS got to do their triage and start lines with him and we talked to him the whole time and encourage him and he did a really good job," said Captain Kenneth Walters with Lancaster County Fire and Rescue.

Walters said crews had to use chainsaw and other extraction tools to get to the victim. It took more than an hour to get him out of the car.

"We had to just cut a little bit, and move a little bit so we could see. Cut a little bit, move a little bit and it was just a long tedious process," Walters said.

Traffic was stopped along Highway 200 while first responders worked to free the victim.

"We seen a lot of EMS with chainsaws, poles, ladders and stuff going into the woods," said Ronnie Snipes, who was caught in traffic.

Only one vehicle was involved in the wreck.

"You hope they’re alright, that’s the first thing you want to know," Snipes said.

First responders could not speculate on the victim’s condition, but said he was talking and knew his name at the time he was airlifted.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating to see what caused the wreck.
