HESPERIA, CA : Man airlifted after rollover crash in Hesperia late Thursday on Thursday, February 16th 2017
Authorities are continuing to investigate a rollover crash that sent a man to a trauma center late Thursday night.
Reports of a rollover crash near the intersection of Santa Fe Ave West and Sequoia Street were received just before 9 p.m. Hesperia Sheriff's Station Sgt. Ron Goddard said deputies arrived on scene and found an overturned vehicle in a ditch just off the roadway with a man lying outside the vehicle.
The man sustained a gash to his head and was "in a lot of pain," Goddard said. He was taken to Desert Valley Hospital to be airlifted to a local trauma center.
Goddard said authorities are still attempting to determine how the crash occurred. According to witness accounts, the man had been involved in a minor hit-and-run crash on Hesperia Road and Sycamore Street just minutes before the rollover occurred.
"Another party involved in the (Hesperia Road) crash noticed that the man was driving erratically and decided to follow the vehicle," Goddard said. "As he came around the corner on Santa Fe Ave West, he saw the vehicle overturned in the ditch."
Further details on the man and the severity of his injuries weren't available late Thursday. None of the other parties involved in the previous crash reported any injuries.
Goddard said it's still unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Hesperia Sheriff's Station at 760-947-1500.
