CHARLOTTE, NC : Police ID victim, driver charged in deadly hit-and-run moped crash on Thursday, 3rd November 2016

A man killed while riding his moped in east Charlotte has been identified and the driver accused of hitting him has been charged with driving while impaired.
According to police, 49-year-old Nga Van Nguyen was traveling along Eastway Drive around 10:42 p.m. Thursday night when police say SUV turned directly into the path of the moped and the two collided in the intersection.
Police say the driver of the SUV, later identified as 30-year-old Lecostia Branden Patterson, reportedly "reversed back onto Michigan Avenue and fled the scene."
According to police, Patterson and the SUV were found along the 600 block of Camrose Drive. He was screened for impairment and arrested for Driving While Impaired and transported to Caorlinas Medical Center to have blood drawn.
Patterson was interviewed by police after being released from the hospital and given additional charges of felony death by motor vehicle and felony hit and run.
The crash is under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
