Archbald, PA : Lakeland grad, baseball standout killed in motorcycle crash in Archbald on Wednesday, April 13, 2016

A man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Archbald on Wednesday.

Archbald police responded to Business Route 6 near Betty Street about 11:40 a.m. for the crash. Police believe another vehicle turned in front of the motorcycle, contributing to the crash, according to police.

The driver of the motorcycle, Shane Rivenburgh, 18, Mayfield, later died of injuries sustained in the wreck, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, 50-year-old Lisa Mecca of Dickson City, was taken to Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was treated and released, Commonwealth Health spokeswoman Renita Fennick said.

Mr. Rivenburgh was a 2015 Lakeland High School graduate and a two-time Times-Tribune All-Region Baseball team selection.

Lakeland baseball Coach Larry Piccini described Mr. Rivenburgh as an “overall great person” and someone everyone wanted to be around. He loved baseball and worked hard to be the best player possible, Mr. Piccini said.

“There were a lot of heavy hearts (today) to say the least,” Mr. Piccini said. “The Lakeland baseball family suffered a tremendous loss today. Myself, my coaches and our players would like to extend prayers and condolences to his family.”

Mr. Rivenburgh also played baseball at Lackawanna College, where he was enrolled as a freshman. Falcons baseball Coach Bruce Thompson said Mr. Rivenburgh had talent, a strong work ethic and was a “team guy” during his tenure on the squad.

His college teammates found out about Mr. Rivenburgh’s passing about a half hour before the team took the diamond for a game Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Thompson said.
