CHALMETTE, LA : Arrest made after 6-year-old boy struck, killed by hit-and-run driver in Chalmette on Monday, 11th March 2024

- A 6-year-old boy is dead and an alleged hit-and-run driver from Chalmette has been arrested.

The victim has been identified by family members as Deaunta White, who celebrated his sixth birthday on with an Incredible Hulk party.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, White was struck Monday around 8 a.m., at the intersection of East Liberaux and Laplace streets in Chalmette. The driver fled the scene, and White soon was pronounced dead at a hospital.

About 10 hours later, the agency announced the arrest of 41-year-old Napoleon Espino of Chalmette, who was booked with hit-and-run causing death. The sheriff’s office said deputies arrested Espino after investigators linked him to the 2007 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck that they said struck White and fled the scene.
